Gum Tragacanth Katira

Gum

  • Origin: IRAN

Astragalus gummifer is a rather rare variant of this type of gum. Astragalus is a plant excretion product and is obtained from various Astragalus species. As an incense, tragacanth, like gum arabic, is mainly used as a binding agent in the production of incense sticks and incense cones. The tragacanth flakes are pulverized and mixed with water. This mixture is left to stand for several hours until a jelly-like mass has formed, which can then be mixed with other incense substances. The gum is then allowed to harden again.
